An absolutely incredible day in So Cal. The kind of day that makes us consider sending for Rudy, re-schooling him, and living in tents on the beach…. But only briefly until we remember how much we adore the Pacific Northwest, and wouldn’t permanently leave for anything.
Jared found a gym to visit, got the oil changed on the Pilot, and went to the bank. You know, responsible adult things. While Jared was being an amazing provider and all-around incredible man, I took a walk down the beach to have lunch with my momma.
When I returned to the VRBO we were staying at, I took a bit more advantage of the sunshine that raised me. There is just something different about the way the California sun hits that always takes me back to being a little girl on the beach, a wet bathing suit full of sand, hair crunched up with saltwater, a layer of sunscreen barely clinging to my skin after hours of being pummeled by wave after wave, and a belly full of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a little bit of beach grit caught between the pieces of bread, all washed down with the remainder of a warm Diet Coke. The only thing missing is the sound of a Dodger game on an old portable AM radio…
While Jared was channeling his inner Schwarzenegger, and I was reminiscing about child beach days, Walker was staring down a microphone to capture some sick vocals for his three tracks!
Jared and I met up after our individual days and got ready for our first CA gig at the Margarita Villa. We got to put up a blog and work up a set list. The work isn’t glamorous, but we sure are!
The Villa gig was interesting for us. A space that once provided us with an overflowing audience, loads of laughter and stories, packed with memories, has seemed to have maybe played itself out. We anticipated this being our most successful of the three gigs, but, other than the few special friends that we got to see from our old days working there or playing shows in Ventura, it really fell short. Several people who wrote and said they were “So excited” to see us there, or “We wouldn’t miss it!”…didn’t show up at all. Our night began at half capacity and kind of grew from there, but never to the full glory we have come to love and expect there. At one point, some guy came up to interrupt my singing to ask if I was in a band in LA. People talked a lot through our set and it felt like sports were a bit higher priority than the show. But, all that aside, we did still have some our die-hard CS fans who have supported us fervently for twenty years!
Speaking of die-hard fans… Nay Nay and Dr. Phun enjoying the harbor at night.
The best part of the gig though was playing as a trio. We are really finding our groove together and enjoying our stage relationship more and more. Excited to see at the end of tour how it has grown and come together.
Also, In-N-Out helps our bonding.
