The next day was our scheduled day to leave, but Rudy was feeling a bit better, so we decided to hang around town for a little longer and take our time. We had breakfast at Durango Bagel and did some shopping.

Obviously, Mom made Rudy stop for every photo-worthy opportunity!

I remember the absolute CHORE it was when I was young and my momma would see a beautiful field full of flowers, a funny sign, or a ridiculous statue, and shout, “Get over there RIGHT now and let me take a picture of you!” Of course, it all had to be perfect and aligned, because you couldn’t just look at it right away and erase it, just to make room for another in seconds flat. This one was going to the developer and would be framed and sent to grandmas everywhere. So we’d have to sit, stand, climb, kneel, pose, smile, make a funny face, and literally a hundred other directions, just to capture the perfect shot. I know I have a little of that mother compulsion in me at times, but at least I try to say “please” a bit more often…

On our way out of town, we marveled at the absolute beauty of the Colorado landscape for the last time this year.

Heading into Utah brought entirely new things to look at. The dark red rocks and smooth textures against the big, blue sky were something to behold. We have been in Northern Utah before, but this was our first time in the Moab area. Wow…

I’d like to point out Jared’s poor shins. I believe they took the worst beating of all the things on this tour. (Jared here: Yeah, I missed a step leaping into the trailer in Yankton. That was after banging my left Achilles’ heel on the bottom of a screen door in Denver. It’s all part of a plot against my left leg, apparently.)

We stopped to grab lunch/dinner at the Moab Brewery and had a really nice meal. Although nothing very significant happened on this travel day (Jared here: Though Rudy got to watch the Captain Underpants Movie in the back seat, and we all got to laugh and quote along because we love it), we were all just really grateful to be together again and on the move. This would be the last long push til home, and we were all feeling it. Our goal was to get to our friends in Missoula by the next afternoon.
